ABOUT US

The Illawarra shipwright Company was founded by Sam Kenady in 2018.

Sam is from Orcas Island, Washington in the United States.  He graduated from the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design with a  degree in Marine Systems and another degree in Marine Composites.  From there, he started his career building America's Cup style racing yachts and moved to Boston and became the lead systems technician at Boston Boatworks. He moved to Australia in 2010 and was the Yard Foreman/ Lead shipwright in a busy boatyard in Sydney. Sam is passionate about boats and boating.  This passion has seen him be an industry leader in lightweight composite manufacturing, and marine repair.

Fredrik Andréason joined Sam in 2020 and is originally from Sjötorp on Lake Vänern in Sweden where he comes from a long line of boat builders and mariners. He has been in the boat industry for 25 years and he moved to Australia in 2009. In Australia, he has worked as a shipwright with Seawind Catamarans, Lewis Ski Boats, Palm Beach Yachts and more. He holds a Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction from TAFE.
